Yes, You CAN Make Money Using Twitter: The 5 Essentials to Building Your Business Using Social Media
I received an email yesterday from a client WePost Media had assisted in the past. We had done some work on his Facebook Page and managed a Facebook ad campaign for him, but he hadn’t expressed any interest in Twitter, until now.
His email went straight to the point. It read: “Question: Have you learned how to make money with Twitter? If so, how much will I have to invest to start making money with Twitter, and what strategy will you be recommending?”
This is a question that many people have, so I decided to share my answer to him with you:
#1: Get their Attention
There is so much noise, spam, and useless mindless blather happening on Twitter, how do you get someone’s attention? You behave like an adult. You follow them. There’s no big song and dance routine. You’re not offering them the most amazing thing ever. You simply follow them.
#2: Attract Them
Once you’ve followed them they will either become attracted to you and what you offer, or they won’t. How are you more likely to attract them? You make sure that your Twitter updates are on topic, and you have a professionally designed, personalized Twitter page background that conveys who you are, what you’re offering, and why others should care. If you do this well, your prospects will probably be attracted to you and your message.
#3: Create Affinity
By regularly posting non-promotional, useful, valuable content to your Twitter page you will generate fans. You’re giving before you’re getting. Keep on giving. The more your Twitter subscribers receive, the more they will like and even love you. Engaging people on your page will take you even farther down that road.
#4: Develop the Audience
Your Twitter followers will expect you to provide them with the knowledge that they are most interested in, that’s when you have an audience. They are excited to see that you’ve posted something. The more you engage, the more likely your audience will stick around for more.
#5: Invite Them to Take Action
You have likely heard the phrase, “Call to Action.” It is an essential element to any marketing effort, online or off. If you frequently ask people to buy your stuff, or go to your web site, you’ll be seen as an annoyance, and get unfollowed. Maybe once every twenty updates invite them to your site, or send a link to your new book on Amazon. Your audience will appreciate your restraint in this area, I promise.
The Secret Recipe
You give away lots and lots of great information. Okay, it’ s not really a secret. It’s been well-known to information marketers forever. If you follow the recipe, your subscribers (on Twitter or via email) fall in love with your content, and with you, and they will buy from you sooner or later.
This recipe works. I know because I’ve seen it work, over and over. Whether you are an author, speaker, musician, travel agency, blogger, dentist, pizza joint, pharmaceutical company, clothing brand, web app, [insert your business type here]. Building an audience filled with raving fans is what you need to do to make money on Twitter, and you can do it. It’s what we do every single day for our clients.
